New Year's Eve Party
What fun is a New Year's Eve party with power, right? Clearly that is the view point of our power company. Around 4:30 p.m. yesterday, as I continued to get stuff ready for our party and just as the sun was going down, the power went out. I patiently waited a couple minutes, and then several minutes, and then hours ... and it still hadn't come back on. Grr. We lit the house with 30-40 candles and turned on our gas fireplace for heat ... we were expecting guests and I was sort of panicking!
Around 7 p.m., our guests started showing up and we still had no power. The darkness and candles made for a nice atmosphere, but really ... I needed my ovens. At 7:45 p.m., we finally got our power back ... cheers all around!

I made these skewers with grapes for our champagne ... it is a Spanish tradition and brings good luck. No we are not Spanish, but I liked the tradition ... and I wanted good luck. Each skewer is supposed to have 12 grapes ... one grape for each month of the upcoming year. But ... my grapes were too big, so we each only got about 8 grapes or so. That means we'll have good luck through about August and after that we're in trouble. Hopefully we'll find more luck along the way!
